September 2015 – Conservation Officer Brian Bacon assigned to Dickinson County received information regarding a trophy Black Bear that was harvested illegally. CO Brian Bacon was able to quickly find the kill site and gather critical evidence for the investigation. Multiple search warrants were served at different residences simultaneously 350 miles away from the scene by assisting Conservation Officers. As a result of the search warrant the trophy bear was seized and interviews of several suspects were conducted. In the end, one suspect admitted to loaning his Bear kill tag to another suspect who shot the Bear while trespassing. The suspect pleaded guilty in court and was ordered to reimburse the State of Michigan for the Bear, fines and costs , and loss of hunting privileges for a term of 5 yrs.
